The xenon lamp faithfully reproduces the full spectrum of natural sunlight, including UV, visible, and infrared. Unlike UV fluorescent lamps or LEDs that emit only specific wavelengths, xenon provides a complete and realistic solar simulation, essential for accurate photostability testing according to ICH Q1B and other international standards.
BPT is the temperature measured on a black panel that simulates the combined effect of solar radiation and ambient temperature. It represents the actual temperature reached by a dark material when exposed to the sun. Our chamber controls BPT up to +98°C, essential for realistic testing of heat-absorbing materials.
The Daylight filter simulates direct outdoor sunlight, including the entire UV spectrum. The Window Glass filter simulates sunlight filtered through window glass, cutting out part of the UV-B spectrum. The choice depends on the actual conditions of use of the tested product (indoors vs. outdoors).
It depends on the objective of the test. For ICH Q1B pharmaceuticals, 1.2M lux-h + 200 Wh/m² is required (typically a few weeks). For material aging, tests can last from days to months. The acceleration factor can be 8-20x compared to natural exposure, drastically reducing validation times.
The spray system simulates rain or condensation for more realistic cyclic testing. Many materials degrade more quickly when exposed to alternating cycles of intense sunlight and humidity. The spray system allows you to reproduce these critical conditions, further accelerating the identification of material weaknesses.
It depends on the type of sample. For very heat-sensitive materials (such as some drugs or polymers), water cooling the table keeps the samples at a controlled temperature despite the intense xenon radiation. It is particularly useful when you want to test only the effect of UV light while separating the thermal effect.
The xenon lamp has a typical lifespan of 1,500–2,000 hours. It is important to monitor light intensity over time using the optional irradiance sensor. Replacement is scheduled and documented to ensure test repeatability. The air cooling system only requires periodic filter cleaning.
Yes, we can customize the chamber to meet various standards: ICH Q1B (pharmaceuticals), ISO 4892 (plastics), ASTM G155 (weathering), ISO 11341 (paints), and many others. Contact us to discuss your regulatory needs and we will configure specific sensors, filters, and test cycles.
